It was Champion vs Champion at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada last night.

Saul “Canelo” Alvarez (60-2-2, 39 KO’s) put his WBA (Super), WBC, WBO, IBF and Ring, Super Middleweight Titles on the line.

His opponent was Jermell Charlo (35-2-1, 19 KO’s). He himself holds the WBA(Super), WBC, IBF and Ring, Light Middleweight Titles.

Charlo moved up 2 weight classes to take this fight.

When the opening bell rang for these two championship warriors to fight, it became evident quickly, who was the better fighter on this night.

Canelo Alvarez won by unanimous decision. The 3 judges at ringside scored the fight, 118-109, 118-109, and 119-108.

Canelo, who is usually a slow starter, came out quickly and took the fight to Charlo. He landed almost at will throughout the fight.

Hard hooks to the shoulders, counter punches to the head. He landed his trademark body shots. He would use his jab to measure Charlo, then jump inside for combinations, before ducking back out to range.

In the 7th round, Alvarez hit Charlo with a straight right hand that forced the light middleweight champ to take a knee. It was only the second time in his career that Charlo had been knocked down.

Canelo spent the final 5 rounds trying to get the knockout win, but the durable Jermell went into survival mode and made it to the final bell.

Alvarez out landed Charlo 134 to 71, in total punches thrown. He landed 78 out of 196 power shots on Jermell. That’s a 40% clip and it showed from start to finish.

“Nobody can compete with this Canelo. Two months in the mountains with my family. I love boxing. I love boxing so f–king much. Boxing is my life. Boxing made me the person that I am today.” He said after the fight.

He also said after the fight, that he wants to get back in the ring next May. He did mention any names or say who he wanted to fight.

“Cinco de Mayo weekend. Whoever, I don’t care. I don’t f–king care.”

In his post-fight interview, Jermell Charlo said that he was going to go back down to 154 lbs. Charlo is the undisputed champion at light middleweight and decided to call out another undisputed champion in Terence Crawford.

“I could fight Terence Crawford. Let him fight Errol Spence and get that out of the way. I’m waiting.”

What I Want to See Next :

I want to see Canelo Alvarez fight the undefeated Jaime Munguia (42-0-0, 33 KO’s) next.

I’d also like to see Jermell Charlo fight the undefeated Tim Tszyu (23-0-0, 17 KO’s) next.

"People ask me what I do in the winter when there's no baseball. I'll tell you what I do. I stare out the window and wait for spring."
