There are times when fans get the honor and pleasure to see a player make history. It was just last year that we saw Albert Pujols join the “700 Home Run Club”. It was September 23rd at Dodger Stadium.
He is only the 4th player to ever reach that milestone. Elite players doing elite things. It’s what makes sports so wonderful and memorable.
This season, we have got an opportunity to witness history unlike anything ever seen before in the long history of baseball. Atlanta Braves rightfielder, Ronald Acuna Jr. has not only broken records, but he’s also created brand new milestones and “clubs”.
In a hard-fought game last night against the Chicago Cubs, that went into extra innings, Acuna Jr stole his 70th base. That’s right. You read that correctly. He has stolen 70 bases this season. If that’s not unbelievable enough you, he’s also hit 41 homeruns this season as well.
He has created the 40/70 Club. Admittance only to those who put up video game like numbers, like he has in 2023.
The historical 70th stolen base, came in the 10th inning of last nights’ game. He lifted the base above his head in celebration of another milestone. Moments later, Acuna Jr was driven in by teammate Ozzie Albies, to clinch the number 1 seed in the National League and home field advantage in the playoffs for the Atlanta Braves.
Ronald Acuna Jr. won Rookie of the Year in 2018. He’s a 2x Silver Slugger Award winner (2019 and 2020). With a season of breaking records, setting new records, being clutch in big moments, in big games, could he add MVP to his list of accomplishments?
I don’t know about you, but I don’t see how he could be viewed any differently than the “Most Valuable Player” in baseball this season.
