Week 1
Welcome to Week 1 of the Fantasy Recap! In this weekly article, I will go over the Big Boys list, which are the top performers for the week. The Can’t Get Right list which cover poor performances and every week I will introduce The Bench Mob, which are players on the bench that may get into starting lineups, and Yeah Right- players who had a top tier or terrible performance that I don’t believe is the real them.
Lastly, the Nope Nope Nope list. Players I won’t touch with a ten-foot pole.
Enjoy!
Okay so the new NFL Season (and the NFL Fantasy Football season of course) kicked off last Thursday Night with the Super Bowl champion Kansas City Chiefs squaring off against the good vibes having Detroit Lions. Though initially it was thought to be another easy win for the wide receiver depleted Chiefs.
Though it wasn’t the prettiest game ever, the Lions came out triumphant. For fantasy, however, it was a sad day. The high earning Travis Kelce was injured and out. It was up to Nope Nope Nope listers, Sky Moore and Kadarius Toney and they lived up to their spot in that list. Either way, that game set us up for the joys, lows and disappointments of week one.
The Giants forgot to get on the bus versus the Cowboys, and they were home. Not much productivity from that group. Conversely, Tony Pollard had a great fantasy game even if Dak Prescott was pedestrian.
What is the bugaboo in Cincinnati? They threw too much to a Browns defense that was feasting on them. The running game was non-existent and even though Deshawn Watson and company were rusty as hell, they still managed to thwart the Bengals, even with an Elf as their logo.
Lamar must get used to his new weapons, but the offense still looked run-heavy even with all the shiny new additions. With Mark Andrews hurt and JK Dobbins out for the season, the air attack needs to become more consistent.
(My leagues use Full Point PPR.)
Week 1 Big Boys-
- Tua Tagovailoa– 28 completions. 466 passing yards. 3 touchdowns, 1 INT 1 fumble lost.
- Brock Purdy– 19 completions. 220 passing yards. 2 touchdowns. 1 fumble lost.
- Austin Ekeler– 16 rushing attempts. 117 rushing yards. 1 rushing touchdown. 4 receptions for 47 yards.
- Brandon Aiyuk– 8 receptions, 129 receiving yards. 2 touchdowns.
- Christian McCaffrey– 22 rushing attempts. 152 rushing yards. 1 touchdown. 3 receptions 17 yards.
- Tyreke Hill– 11 receptions. 215 receiving yards. 2 touchdowns
- Jordan Love– 15 completions. 245 passing yards. 3 passing touchdowns. 12 rushing yards.
Week 1 Can’t Get Right
- Daniel Jones– Sheesh. Yes. That is the stat line.
- Sky Moore– Holy Cow. Did he even make the bus?
- Drake London– Who did he piss off?
- Tee Higgins– 8 targets. No receptions. Yeah, somebody must owe him money.
- D’Andre Swift 1 rush att. 3 rush yards. 1 reception on 2 targets. Come on, Man!
- Ja’Marr Chase– 5 receptions for 39 yards on 9 targets. 1 rushing attempt for 2 yards. But I thought you were a #1 wide out?
Week 1 Bench Mob-
- Zay Flowers. Got to give Lamar’s new toy his props. 9 receptions for 78 yards on 10 targets. 9 rushing yards. Look for him to have another solid week. If so, by week 3 you might want to move him into your starting line-up.
- Brian Robinson Jr. Even with a crowded backfield he stepped up this week with 19 rushing attempts resulting in 59 yards and a receiving touchdown. He may solidify his spot by week 3.
- Tyler Allgeier- Though I don’t really believe in you yet, your first week’s performance is unquestioned. With the shiny new Bijon Robinson in place for Tyler to put up what he did was impressive. 2 rushing touchdowns on 15 attempts and 75 yards. Whooo!
- Michael Pittman- Though there is a new, fresh quarterback in town and Jonathan Taylor is on the PUP list, this was a time for Michael Pittman to step up. He actually did. Hauling in 8 receptions for 97 yards and a touchdown on 11 targets.
Week 1 Nope Nope Nope–
- D’Onta Foreman- because, come on.
- Miles Sanders- I just don’t have the faith he can be a #1 back.
- Cooper Kupp- Not low hanging fruit, the guy is getting up there. This is just the latest injury.
- Christian McCaffery- I know folks still love him but an aging running back with injury history just doesn’t do it for the kid.
- Devin Singletary- Bills. Running Back. Need I say more. I must stay away.
- Aaron Rodgers- This isn’t a pile on due to the unfortunate injury sustained last night, but it is one of the reasons I stayed away from Rodgers at draft time. He is an aging quarterback and his last 2 seasons were not fantasy friendly.
The Fantasy Flyer- Based on waiver wire personnel- if there are injuries in your line up, look to these hidden gems (using the roster percentages from Yahoo Fantasy) :

- Jimmy Garoppolo- 16% rostered
- Jordan Love- 32% rostered
- Brock Purdy- 56% rostered

- Kendrick Bourne- 3% rostered
