WWE NXT: NXT Women’s Champion faces tough Challenge, Main Event ends Brutally

WWE NXT: September 5, 2023 – Results, Videos & Report – Performance Center in Orlando, Florida/ USA

Vic Joseph and Booker T welcome us to tonight’s episode of NXT, where Tiffany Stratton and Kiana James have already made their way to the ring. Alicia Taylor takes over the official introduction of the opponents before the match for the NXT Women’s Championship starts right away!

Kiana James not tricky enough for Tiffany Stratton

•NXT Women’s Championship
Singles Match:
Tiffany Stratton (c) retains her NXT Women’s Championship against Kiana James via Pinfall after the Prettiest Moonsault Ever

Before the finish, Stratton tried to stop James’ offense with the help of James’ handbag. The referee was distracted by this, so Stratton was able to dig deeper into her bag of tricks and apply a grab to her opponent’s eyes.

Becky Lynch wants the NXT Women’s Championship

Afterwards, a voice interrupts the victory celebration of the NXT Women’s Champion. Becky Lynch appears on the screen and announces that after Stratton has already visited RAW and Payback, she will now pay a visit to NXT herself. Namely next week, when she challenges Tiffany Stratton to a match for the NXT Women’s Championship. With this she wants to finally add the title she never held to her collection.

-In front of the Performance Center NXT Champion Carmelo Hayes and Wes Lee were watched as they arrived. Lee let the champion go first, which he gladly accepted.

-At the Diamond Mine Dojo, the Creed Brothers and Ivy Nile meet and are happy about the reunion. They hang their team’s flag back up and want to invite all teams to NXT. They say their last title run was a year ago and they want to get back to the top.

With Tony D’Angelo and Channing “Stacks” Lorenzo they are also directly welcomed back by the reigning NXT Tag Team Champions and the two teams tease each other amicably. They also thank each other for the support against Schism before they want to talk about the Tag Team Titles.

They are now joined by Edris Enofé & Malik Blade, who are also are interested in Gold. A discussion breaks out between the Creeds and Enofé & Blade, whereupon Tony D and Stacks decide to step in.

-It’s official! The match between Tiffany Stratton and Becky Lynch for the NXT Women’s Championship next week will take place in the Main Event!

•Singles Match:
Ilya Dragunov def. Oro Mensah (w/ Meta-Four: NXT Heritage Cup Champion Noam Dar, Lash Legend & Jakara Jackson) via Pinfall after the Torpedo Moscow

Dragunov vs. Lee battle for NXT Championship match at NXT “No Mercy”

The victory celebration is interrupted by Wes Lee, who explains that he usually makes such promises backstage. But today he explains in front of the audience that Dragunov has to get in line, because he himself will get a title chance against Carmelo Hayes. At “Heatwave” he was close to winning the title, but when he goes home as champion at “No Mercy” he wants to give Dragunov the first title shot.

Dragunov of course doesn’t agree with that, the latter of course wants the match against Hayes at “No Mercy” himself, and promises to destroy anything and everything that blocks his path. The two provoke each other a bit as Carmelo Hayes comes out.

At first, he’s a little amused that two opponents he’s already defeated and debating over who will defeat him. Hayes elaborates that they both took too much risk in their title matches and he himself benefited from it. With Shawn Michaels, Hayes has now clarified that next week Wes Lee and Ilya Dragunov will settle between themselves who will be the next main challenger. The latter may try his luck again at “No Mercy”.

-Dominik Mysterio is tearing up a WWE rulebook in his locker room, complaining that the stuff in it doesn’t make sense. On the other hand, he notes that the North American Championship goes great with his black and purple referee shirt. He will referee the match between Mustafa Ali and Dragon Lee today, which will determine his next challenger.

-McKenzie Mitchell asks Nathan Frazer just seconds before his match how he plans to adjust his strategy after losing to Joe Coffey the previous week. Frazer addresses the elephant in the room, as his high-speed style not only caused the loss, but nearly caused worse. However, he says he is now under pressure. After losing the first match in the group stage, he can’t afford to lose another, so now is not the time to slow down the pace.

-Backstage Jacy Jayne gives Thea Hail a new styling, when Gigi Dolin comes in and confronts Jayne about having already found someone new to manipulate. Jayne and Hail, of course, see it differently and think Dolin is just jealous. But Blair Davenport also joins in and agrees with Dolin, saying it’s also frighteningly easy to manipulate a kid like Thea Hail. Dolin isn’t thrilled about Davenport making fun of littles when Hail steps in and gives Dolin her opinion. She doesn’t know Hail and she’s not a kid anymore, she’s going to prove that to her in the ring today.

NXT Global Heritage Invitational continues

•NXT Global Heritage Invitational (Group B) Singles Match
Nathan Frazer (2) won against Duke Hudson (2) (w/ Andre Chase) via Pinfall after the Phoenix Splash

-Hank Walker & Tank Ledger explain to the Creed Brothers their methods for coming together better as a team, as Bronco Nima & Lucien Price also join in. They make it clear that they are not going to take a back seat in the title race, they are going to run straight through the competition. Scrypts also enters the picture and signs off on these intentions once again.

•Singles Match:
Tyler Bate der. Dabba-Kato via Pinfall after the Spinny Boi

-Before heading to the ring, Dominik Mysterio exchanges a few words with Carmelo Hayes. He complains about how exhausting life as a champion is. But Melo would only find out next week who would be his challenger, while he himself will choose his today.

Chaotic scenes in the NXT Women’s Locker Room

-In the locker room, Lyra Valkyria and Roxanne Perez watch Mysterio enter the arena and both lament Dominik Mysterio being the North American Champion. Valkyria puts all her hopes in Dragon Lee, saying he will ease Dom out of the title once he becomes the main challenger today. A frustrated Kiana James comes in and throws things around the room, which they both think is very unprofessional.

While Valkyria recognizes that it’s two different pairs of shoes whether you win a title opportunity or a title match, Kiana brags about getting more title opportunities, gladly at the expense of Roxanne and Valkyria. Perez won’t let her have this and beats on James, which has to be separated by the Women’s Locker Room rushing over.

-Baron Corbin is asked by McKenzie Mitchell if he would bet on Von Wagner or Bron Breakker in tonight’s Main Event. Corbin says he doesn’t care who wins the match. He will watch and enjoy this battle from the commentary booth. But he would consider picking up the pieces afterwards.

-In a flashback, we see Becky Lynch issue a challenge towards Tiffany Stratton earlier in the evening. Next week, the two will clash for the NXT Women’s Championship. Kelly Kincaid tries to get a comment from Tiffany Stratton backstage, but she storms past her without a word.

Mustafa Ali gets a new chance

•Singles Match – Special Guest Referee: Dominik Mysterio – NXT North American Championship #1 Contender:
Mustafa Ali def. Dragon Lee via Pinfall after a roll-in

Dominik Mysterio was actually running the match fairly until the end, when Dragon Lee thought Dom had a very slow count. As punishment, Dom counted the final pinfall twice as fast.

Ali enjoys his victory for a moment before taking Dominik downed him with a punch. He turns to Dragon Lee and declares that he won but had nothing to do with the way Dominik Mysterio decided the match before leaving the ring. Dragon Lee also leaves the ropes, leaving a battered North American Champion behind.

-In the locker room, Trick Williams gets a visit from Ilja Dragunov, who declares that he is here just to talk. He reiterates that he meant what he said about Trick Williams’ strength the previous week, but he tells Williams to stop lying to Carmelo Hayes. After he takes out Wes Lee next week, there is no doubt that Hayes can’t beat Dragunov.

-Drew Gulak, Charlie Dempsey and Damon Kemp are working out in the ring when Myles Borne comes in to clean things up. Gulak and co. are not amused, of course, as they’ve overheard in the meantime that Borne has been talking to Fallon Henley, thus getting himself a match at NXT. According to Gulak, Borne is far from ready, but this is his only chance to prove himself for a long time. He better take advantage of it and Borne promises to do so for sure.

-Last week: After his defeat against Dijak, who was able to prevail with the help of his belt, Eddy Thorpe is beside himself. First it was the ring post, then a false start and now the belts, Dijak could not prevail in a fair match man against man against Thorpe. They were far from finished, he said.

•NXT Global Heritage Invitational (Group A) Singles Match:
Butch (3) vs. Axiom (1) ends in a Time Limit Draw

The two opponents pay their respects with a Fist Bump before Tyler Bate comes out and reminds them that he is also part of Group A of the tournament. He will play his first match on Friday at Level Up.

-Before the show, Von Wagner apologized for something that would clearly hurt him more than his counterpart. He doesn’t want it to be held against him, but he will promote Breakker through the commentary desk today. Now it becomes clear that he was talking to the very desk that changed his life so much. Mr. Stone comes in, inquires if Wagner is ready, and the two head out.

Garza & Humberto have their eyes on the Gold

-Still in the Diamond Mine Dojo are Tony D and Stacks, who actually only wanted to welcome back the Creed Brothers. But in the meantime they could get to know the other teams of the NXT Tag Team Division and there would be some stubborn competitors. At this moment Angel Garza & Humberto Carillo face them, who are looking forward to a future clash.

The champions, however, do not have the two on their account yet, which Garza & Humberto think is a mistake, because soon the tag team gold would change hands.

D’Angelo has a lot of respect for the grandfather of the two, but they should be a little more careful who they mess with here. Angel explains they are now about fame and glory, not good looks, and along the way they are ready to scratch anyone’s eyes out. Tony D is also interested in scratching and might want to give Angel Garza a few more scars, which he doesn’t want to put up with and starts a brawl. Also the rest of the teams interfere and in the Diamond Mine Dojo the situation escalates!

•Singles Match
Thea Hail (w/ Jacy Jayne) def. Gigi Dolin via Submission with a Kimura Lock

During the match Gigi Dolin was attacked by Blair Davenport, which the referee did not notice thanks to a distraction by Jacy Jayne.

-At the Diamond Mine Dojo, Julius & Brutus are sitting on the floor recovering from the brawl, and the room looks accordingly. Ivy Nile returns and inquires if the two are okay, but they only reply that they have never been better.

-Lyra Valkyria gives Kelani Jordan some advice about not letting her recent defeats get her down. Dana Brooke comes in and feels betrayed as a mentor and friend, so she demands that Valkyria leave immediately. Valkyria doesn’t want to be told to shut up and challenges Brooke to a match. And maybe after that Jordan will realize that she should look for better friends than Dana Brooke.

The NXT Women’s Champion with clear Words

-In the parking lot, Tiffany Stratton talks about Becky Lynch, which is the biggest match in her career, but it only lasts two years and finally Becky is chasing her. Becky’s career is on the decline, while she herself is the center of the universe, she said. The NXT Women’s Championship isn’t going anywhere next week, she said.

-Speaking of next week, in addition to the NXT Women’s Championship match between Tiffany Stratton and Becky Lynch, Wes Lee and Ilya Dragunov will compete to determine the next challenger for NXT Champion Carmelo Hayes. The NXT Global Heritage Invitational Tournaments continue with the pairings of Tyler Bate vs. Axiom and Nathan Frazer vs. Akira Tozawa, plus the Creed Brothers face Malik Blade & Edris Enofé.

-For the following match, Baron Corbin takes his place at the commentary desk, as promised.

•No Disqualification Singles Match:
Bron Breakker def. Von Wagner (w/ Mr. Stone) via Pinfall after the Spear

Wagner demolished half the arena by sending Breakker through the construction of the building. The commentary desk was also broken after a pop-up powerbomb. After a low blow, however, Breakker got back into the match.

Breakker snaps

Breakker celebrates his victory only briefly and Von Wagner slowly pulls himself back up on the rope. But Breakker has not had enough and continues to attack Von Wagner with a chair. Breakker also slams his opponent into the ring steps before removing the upper part of them. He then places Von Wagner’s head on the bottom half before smashing the other part onto Wagner’s skull. The camera image is quickly switched to a black screen and the commentators show themselves absolutely stunned, while the referees who have rushed over call for medical help. With these images and sounds, respectively, tonight’s edition of NXT comes to an end!
