On Thursday evening , San Francisco 49ers Head Coach, Kyle Shanahan, confirmed that the plan would’ve been to sign Phillip Rivers, if they made it to the Super Bowl.

Brock Purdy got hurt in the matchup against the Eagles and Jimmy Garoppolo was possibly going to be cleared, this only happens though if the 49ers make it to the Super Bowl against the Chiefs.

Phillip Rivers would’ve came into Super Bowl LVII not playing in the league since his final season, in 2020, with the Indianapolis Colts.

The 2023 season could’ve changed drastically with Rivers signing with the Niners, the course of NFL history could’ve changed in multiple ways, if the 49ers only beat the Philadelphia Eagles.
