According to NFL Insider Jordan Schultz, the Cleveland Browns are signing DL Shelby Harris.
The Browns defensive line was needing the muscle and beef that Harris brings especially since Alex Wright and Isaiah Thomas both underwent arthroscopic knee surgery Tuesday and are expected to return at some point “early in the season.”
This signing signifies that Cleveland is making a strong push this year. GM Andrew Berry is demonstrating once again that he doesn’t sit on his hands and with owner Jimmy Haslam’s desire to win this addition makes sense.
Harris is great locker room veteran and can clog up the middle on the field. He is a leader on and off the field.
Cleveland’s new defensive coordinator Jim Schwartz’s defensive philosophy is largely about attack, attack, attack so the Browns are going to need a steady rotation of defensive linemen in and out of the game.
Here are some of the main cogs that will anchor the 2023 Browns defensive line and try to make the opposing teams QB feel the pressure while also stopping the run:
Myles Garrett
Za’Darius Smith
Ogbo Okoronkwo
Dalvin Tomlinson
Shelby Harris
The deal is one-year at what could be worth up to $5.25 million. Last season Harris played in Seattle and recorded 2 sacks, 44 solo tackles starting in 15 games.
