The Omaha Storm Chasers and the Columbus Clippers entertained the 7,838 fans at Huntington Park.
It was Sitcom Night as Leslie David Baker, better known as “Stanley Hudson” on the hit tv show “The Office” threw out the first pitch and took photos with fans.
The game was littered with lots of home runs, 8 to be exact with each team hitting 4.
With that many home runs one would think the game would be high scoring, it relatively wasn’t considering the balls flying out the yard. Omaha had two solo shots and two 2-run homers. Columbus had 3 solo dingers and one 2-run homer.
The Storm Chasers took a 3-0 lead after 2 innings but Columbus answered in the 5th with 2 runs when Johnathan Rodriquez, the highly regarded Guardians prospect smacked a 2-run jack.
The 6th inning was full of fireworks as the Clippers matched the 3 runs by Omaha in the top of the 6th, with 3 solo home runs in the home half. One of those home runs was by another highly anticipated Guardians prospect 1B Jhonkensy Noel.
James Karinchak came in for the top of the 9th and surrounded a run. He had one strikeout in the inning. The Clippers scored a run in the bottom of the inning but failed to tie the game.
The Clippers and Storm Chasers go at it again Saturday at Huntington Park.
