Last year, AEW opened the forbidden door, by hosting a well-received pay per view alongside New Japan Pro-Wrestling.

It featured some dream matches, such as Jon Moxley squaring off against Hiroshi Tanahashi, and Jay White coming out on top in a brutal fatal four way match against Adam Cole, Hangman Adam Page, and Kazuchika Okada.

The 2023 version, featured a five-star match between Will Ospreay and Kenny Omega, with the latter coming out on top. There is, however, only one truly forbidden door – the one that exists between AEW and WWE.

WWE doesn’t like to acknowledge their competition too much. The phrase “AEW” is considered taboo on both Raw and Smackdown.

On the other side of the rivalry, AEW will acknowledge WWE’s existence, but only if it makes sense to do so or if they’re making fun of them.

In reality, it’s hard to see Tony Khan and Vince McMahon putting aside their differences to open their forbidden door. However, I’d argue it would make a ton of sense for both parties to host a pay per view supercard event.

First of all, both companies would stand to gain a lot of money by doing so. The Million Dollar Man Ted DeBiase famously said “everybody’s got a price” and that price would be met by the pay per view buys and tickets sold.

Secondly, both companies could stand to increase their viewership. A healthy portion of AEW fans stopped watching WWE in favor of AEW because they were tired of how WWE did things. Things are quite a bit different now. Both WWE and AEW could highlight the best of their companies, which could do wonders for their ratings.

For now though, wrestling fans can only dream about what could happen if WWE and AEW decided to work together. This is what the dream could look like.

Ground Rules

I’ve set some guidelines to help build this card. Firstly, Forbidden Door 2023, had 14 matches on its card, including five pre-show matches. I’ll limit myself to 14 matches, but instead of five pre-show matches, there will be two.

Secondly, it has already been established there’s nearly no chance of the WWE and AEW forbidden door being opened anytime soon. If we’re doing that, let’s not limit ourselves by wondering if certain parties would be healthy or would even be willing to work with each other. Let’s assume everyone is healthy and willing.

Thirdly, as I stated earlier, there will be 14 matches. 12 of them will be on the main card. Neither company will want to admit the other one might be better, so each company is going to win six matches. Also, don’t worry about the order of the matches.

Pre-show

Judgment Day (Finn Balor, Damian Priest, and Dominik Mysterio) vs. House Of Black (Malakai Black, Buddy Matthews, and Brody King)

It says a lot this match isn’t on the main card. Both stables are deserving of a spot somewhere on this card. Unfortunately, due to how stacked this card is, it’s going to have to be on the preshow.

Winner: House Of Black

Raquel Rodriguez, Liv Morgan, and Bayley vs. Ruby Soho, Jade Cargill, and Saraya

I had a very hard time excluding these six women from the card, so I figured I’d put them in the pre-show. These are two of the best women’s tag team each company has to offer, plus an additional special talent who deserve a spot, even on this stacked card.

Winner: Rodriguez, Morgan, and Bayley

Main Card

Sami Zayn and Kevin Owens vs. FTR

One of my favorite things is when a pay per view starts off with a banger. These are two elite tag teams who should work together quite well. Each team has a unique mixture of old school technical wrestling and the ability to pull off absurd spots.

Winner: FTR

Cody Rhodes vs. CM Punk

The ultimate babyface takes on one of the most controversial, despicable heels around. These two have wrestled each other in the past, but it’s never been like this. They haven’t wrestled in a singles match in over a decade and haven’t been in the same match since 2014 at the Royal Rumble.

Winner: Cody Rhodes

Asuka vs Iyo Sky vs Hikaru Shida vs Riho

This is one of my dream matches. These four ladies have came from Japan to dominate in their respective organizations. Asuka, Iyo Sky, Hikaru Shida, and Riho have helped give Japan’s pro wrestling scene some well-deserved attention.

Winner: Hikaru Shida

Gunther vs Jon Moxley

Give me 20 minutes of these two beating the absolute snot out of each other. It’s a darn shame these two hard hitting brutes have never faced each other. This match is a huge reason why an AEW and WWE forbidden door needs to happen. Oh, and Moxley is definitely going to bleed. It’s a big match, after all.

Winner: Gunther

AJ Styles vs Bryan Danielson

This isn’t a dream match like most of the other matches on this card are. However, sometimes it’s best to go with what you know will work. Styles and Danielson have outstanding chemistry together. Their brand of wrestling would be a nice palate cleanser after the Gunther and Moxley bloodbath.

Winner: Bryan Danielson

Bianca Belair vs. Kris Statlander

These two women are especially unique. They each have an athletic, powerhose style that is becoming more popular in women’s wrestling. Each of them have proven they are a vital cog to each of their respective company’s women’s division.

Winner: Kris Statlander

Roman Reigns vs. MJF

A match between two of the greatest champions in each of their promotions. Say what you want about Reigns, he’s been a main event guy for the better part of the last decade. Few people can say that.

Winner: Roman Reigns

Charlotte Flair vs. Athena

It’s a bit surprising this will only be the fourth time this duo has squared off. Athena has come a long way since her days of Ember Moon, as she is the current Ring of Honor Women’s Champion.

Winner: Charlotte Flair

Main Events

Britt Baker vs. Becky Lynch

This one’s an absolute dream match. Not too much more needs to be said. Both Becky and Britt have proven they can carry an entire division on their back.

Winner: Britt Baker

The Usos and Solo Sikoa vs. The Elite (Young Bucks and Adam Cole)

I don’t care what the over/under is for super kicks in this match, I’m taking the over. In all seriousness, these two tag teams have been among the best in the world over the past five years. Adding Sikoa and Cole into the mix makes this match even more interesting than it already is.

Winner: The Elite

Rhea Ripley vs. Toni Storm

Australia has given fans some extremely good wrestlers lately. Perhaps none of them are more gifted than these two. Storm and Ripley had some brilliant matches in NXT. Both of them have improved quite a bit since those days, which is saying a lot.

Winner: Rhea Ripley

Seth Rollins vs. Kenny Omega

This will be the first ever singles match between the two legends. However, these two have wrestled against each other before. Previously, Danielson beat Rollins and Omega in an underrated triple threat match in Ring of Honor back in 2008. Back then, Rollins was known as Tyler Black and Omega was years away from becoming the best bout machine.

Winner: Seth Rollins
