So as we all begun to think it couldn’t get much worse for the Running Back position, right?

Yesterday was once again a moment to sit and think, what has happened to a once heralded and much needed position.

Joe Mixon took a pay cut just to remain with the Bengals, Dalvin Cook seeked out new pastures without any success so far, Josh Jacobs and Saquon Barkley simply at the point of sign or sit, and in addition, we’re not talking about mid rate backs, these guys are top of the food chain in production, and in game changing scenarios.

We’re now entering the process it seems of expendable talent in that position, teams look to get maybe a two to three year maximum window, and then move on from those contracts, and draft one, maybe two new backs that are fresh and ready to go with the workload.

Is this the beginning of more college players now thinking about the progress they can make by adding more to their all round game, maximizing longevity in the league, Christian McCaffrey, Deebo Samuel ,Bijan Robinson will be moulded the same.

To be paid top dollar you’ve got to be irreplaceable, and essential to your team, with a conveyer belt mentality on the running back position, it seems becoming a top blocker, receiver and moving the chains when called upon simply is becoming the only road forward.

The alternative is killing your career sitting out ask Le’Veon Bell. Is it disrespectful? Yes. Is it the easy out? Yes. For Running Backs though this is reality. Let us know on Twitter @WeLikeSportzPCwhat you think.

"People ask me what I do in the winter when there's no baseball. I'll tell you what I do. I stare out the window and wait for spring."
