If you’re a baseball fan you should well know the history of the Pittsburgh Pirates having great pitchers just for them to not get paid and be traded, or just be traded at a young age as a whole before building up to their full potential.

Paul Skenes isn’t the first future ace the Pirates have had, especially isn’t the first future ace they have drafted at the 1.01. We should all know the last pitcher they drafted at the 1.01 in 2011 in Gerrit Cole, he has been one of the best pitchers since his run with the Astros where he should’ve won his first ever C.Y Young Award in 2019, but unfortunately lost to teammate and future H.O.F Justin Verlander.

The next future ace the Pirates have given up is Tyler Glasnow, Glasnow has been one of the most filthiest right handed pitchers in today’s game even coming off Tommy John surgery this year. Glasnow is pitching a 3.16 ERA combined in his 6 years with Tampa Bay. Throughout those 6 years Glasnow has pitched in the Postseason 9 times including one of those Postseasons leading to a World Series run.

Now this pitcher wasn’t drafted by the Pirates, but he was part of the deal that dealt Gerrit Cole to the Astros and that is Joe Musgrove. Joe Musgove was traded to the Padres last season from the Pirates and was single handily their best pitcher during their Postseason run. Joe Musgrove last season in the playoffs was ELECTRIC, as he pitched three games including an insane pitching performance in the Wild Card against the Mets, where he pitched 7 innings and only gave up 1 hit and got the win.

All in all Pirates fans should be excited for having a stud like Skenes to come up into their program, we also gotta wonder though how long until he’s the next Ace shipped from this team to prosper later on in their career? Let us know on Twitter @WeLikeSportzPC what you think.

"People ask me what I do in the winter when there's no baseball. I'll tell you what I do. I stare out the window and wait for spring."
