We head to Comerica Park in Detroit for the final game between the Toronto Blue Jays and Detroit Tigers. Less than 24 hrs ago the Tigers made history, as they completed a combined no hitter. It was the 9th no hitter in Tigers history. It took only three pitchers as Matt Manning started it off followed by Jason Foley and Alex Lange.
The Tigers look to keep the Blue Jays bats in check as they hand the ball to Tarik Skubal. Making just his second start of the season after missing time with an elbow injury, Skubal looked sharped in his first appearance, but it was against Oakland. Detroits bullpen with get used more in todays matchup as Skubal is on an innings limit. His counterpart who’s had a rough go so far with his new team, is right hander Chris Bassitt. Bassit made six starts in June and surrendered two or more runs in four of them.
What gets lost in Detroit’s no hitter is how the Blue Jays took Detroit behind the woodshed on Friday with a 12-2 victory. The Tigers responded emphatically with a no hitter. Now I expect Toronto to do the same.
Its normally a huge let down after a no hitter and the team no hit looks to respond. Skubal will be sharp, but he won’t be in the game long enough and this Tigers team ERA is ranked 22nd in the majors.
