Elly De La Cruz is a different Breed!

Yesterday, De La Cruz steps up to the plate for his first at bat of the game, when Nationals manager, Dave Martinez, asked for the umpire to check the legality of De La Cruz’s bat. De La Cruz has a knob at the bottom of his bat.

This went on for a few minutes, the umpires had to contact New York to make sure that the knob of the bat was legal. For his first at bat he was not able to have the knob on the end of his bat, but was later notified that he would be able to use the knob for his second at bat.

What does De La Cruz do? BLASTS a 455 foot home run, and of course had something to say. “Just to tell everybody that the knob is the not the reason why I am doing a good job.” He explained more saying “It’s because of all the work I’m putting out there.”

Since getting his call up to the big leagues, De La Cruz is batting .318, with 4 HRs, 14 RBIs and only having 110 at bats.

This will definitely spark something more in De La Cruz, and look for him to help the Reds go deep into the postseason.
