The NHL Draft had a bit of a surprise early on Wednesday night in Nashville. The Anaheim Ducks selected Leo Carlsson, with the number two pick overall, ahead of Adam Fantilli. The Columbus Blue Jackets wasted no time in selecting Fantilli, with the number 3 pick overall.

Adam Fantilli comes to Columbus also known as Buckeye Country, from the University of Michigan. The fans of the Blue Jackets are so happy to land Fantilli, so happy that no one will hold his choice of college against him.

The Blue Jackets have been desperately searching for a stud center, for just as long as the Cleveland Browns have been searching for a franchise QB. Next year both teams could be in luck, however, Fantilli may choose to play at Michigan for another season.

In Fantilli, the CBJ are getting the Hobey Baker award winner, the nation’s top collegiate player. He led the Wolverines to the Frozen Four, while scoring 30 goals with 35 assists. He had four game-winning goals and 10 power-play goals.

The 6’2” 195 pound center is what Columbus needs to become a dangerous offensive hockey club.

So while Columbus will never say, “Go Blue” the fans will surely shout, “Go Blue Jackets!” Even if that means a Michigan product is initiating those screams.

"People ask me what I do in the winter when there's no baseball. I'll tell you what I do. I stare out the window and wait for spring."
