The Cleveland Cavaliers are coming off a season where they won over 50 games, but after a disappointing first round loss to the Knicks, many fans and the front office are looking at roster moves for improvement.
The Cavs enter the NBA Draft with only one second-round pick (49th overall). What can they do at 49? Here are a couple players worth mentioning.
Hunter Tyson, Clemson – the Cavs need shooting at the wing position and the 6’8” Tyson can fill it. He shoots over 40 percent from deep and also grabs around 10 rebounds per game.
Jalen Wilson, Kansas – the 6’8” small forward averaged over 20 points per game. He is very slick and is a difficult matchup for other bigs, and is very tough with good handles, so he is a problem for players that are smaller. He is good at shooting off picks.
There are rumors circulating that Cleveland might try to move into the late first-round. The possible teams that the Cavs might make a deal with are the Rockets (20), Brooklyn (21 & 22), Portland (23), and Utah (28).
Cleveland has some players that might be attractive to other teams; like Cedi Osman and Lamar Stevens.
Osman has a non-guaranteed contract of 6.7 million that could be a catalyst for teams to want to trade. Cleveland could then try to go after Rudy Gay or Patty Mills, and get an additional pick attached as well.
GM Koby Altman will look to be active to try to push the Cavaliers closer to championship contention.
At this time, I won’t mention that Donovan Mitchell has only two years left on his deal if he declines the player option, but I just did.
