CHARLOTTE – This past weekend was one of the greatest race to take place every year in the NASCAR season. The Coca-Cola 600 at Charlotte Motor Speedway.
The race is not only famous for it being the longest race in the NASCAR season, 400 laps on its 1.5 mile track, equaling out to 600 miles, but it is also during Memorial Day Weekend.
Three races are held at Charlotte Motor Speedway, The Craftsman Truck series, the NASCAR Xfinity Series, and the NASCAR Cup Series.
The Craftsman Truck Series, was held on Friday night, where Ben Rhodes in the #99 Ford truck took the Checker Flag.
The NASCAR Xfinity series was scheduled to be held on Saturday afternoon, at 12 pm. Charlotte was hit with 3 straight days on rain. Which caused the Xfinity race to be postponed the Monday, at 11 am.
All of the rain in Charlotte really put a wrench in the Speedways plans, unfortunately the rain continued into Sunday when the Coca-Cola 600 was scheduled to go.
Come Monday morning, the race seemed like it was going to hold off, Mother Nature had other plans. The Xfinity race started at 11 am, and then went into a weather caution. NASCAR didn’t want to hold up the Cup Series race any further, they sent the Xfinity cars back to the garage, and set the Coca-Cola 600 to begin at 3 pm.
The Coca-Cola 600 began, and it was a doozy! Ryan Blaney took the checkered flag in the #12 Ford Mustang. Then after the completion of the Cup Series race, the Xfinity series race finished with Justin Allgaier winning in the #7 Chevy.
A lot of fans stuck around the entire weekend to see the greatest race in the NASCAR season, and they were not disappointed.
