Philadelphia Eagles star quarterback Jalen Hurts has agreed to a five-year, $255 million dollar contract extension that will make him the highest-paid player in NFL history. The guaranteed portion of the contract calls for $179.3 million and that is still less than what the Cleveland Browns guaranteed Deshaun Watson last year, $230 million but the annual amount makes him the highest compensated player.
Hurts, who led the Eagles to the Super Bowl last year, will receive $110 million as soon as he inks his name on the contract and will make $64 million in 2024 when the extension kicks in. The top annual QB earners are:
Jalen Hurts: $51,000,000
Aaron Rodgers: $50,271,667
Russell Wilson: $48,517,647
Kyler Murray: $46,100,000
Deshaun Watson: $46,000,000

The Eagles are not only rewarding their field general monetarily but they also have included a no-trade clause in the contract, the first in franchise history. Hurts gained that trust by being a MVP candidate finishing the 2022 season, with 5,183 combined yards and had 43 total touchdowns.
This new contract should make things interesting around the league as the Lamar Jackson saga continues, and don’t forget that Joe Burrow will also be looking for a contract extension, as he has only one year remaining on his rookie contract.
Hurts may have hurt the wallets of many NFL owners with his big deal.
