There was a time when we thought as football fans, we were seconds away from hearing the breaking news, that Aaron Rodgers was a member of the New York Jets. Fast forward a few weeks and the Adam Schefter tweet still isn’t here.

So where are negotiations at now?

Well on Tuesday, April 11th, writer Rob Demovsky for ESPN wrote that we still don’t know which side is holding up the deal. Since Rodgers broke the news that he would accept a trade to the Jets, both teams have remained very quiet. There has been rumors swirling about both teams, but nothing strong enough to nail down any storylines. So we still remain in the dark, on what’s holding up this deal, and what the timeline for completing it is, and it seems as if communication between these two teams has been slow or even simply not at all, in the past few weeks.

So while we are still mostly in the unknown, there is something we do know. With Jordan Love set to be under center, if the Rodgers trade does go through, the draft puts pressure on the Green Bay Packers to get this deal done and presents them with a timeline.

With a new quarterback most likely starting in Green Bay, and with the departure of many key players, this year’s draft will be crucial in setting Jordan Love, for success if he’s given the chance. Picks from the Jets will obviously be a major part of this trade, and due to that, it makes the situation time sensitive. Now, the Jets’ 13th overall selection doesn’t seem to be something New York wants to give up, which could be the piece holding up the trade.

However, day two or three picks from this year’s draft will definitely be included in one way or another. So this sets a deadline for these trade talks which will give us a true idea of these teams’ intentions.

From what we have heard it still seems like both teams are not close to reaching a deal. With the deadline of the draft around the corner, it should and will motivate these teams to get something worked out. Until then, Packers and Jets fans alike will have to continue to sit in with their anxiety, and pray to whichever higher-power they believe in, that a deal gets done.

These next few weeks could very well make or break this deal, and the landscape for these teams in the 2023 season.

So with the clock ticking, will a deal get done? Let us know on Twitter @WeLikeSportzPC.
