The annual Scarlet and Gray spring game for the Ohio State Buckeyes lacked the offensive fireworks that most fans are accustomed to but fans should not panic, it’s only April.

The Ohio State Buckeyes enter the upcoming year with high hopes as always but, like they did two years ago, they enter with a new signal caller under center.

The most likely candidate to replace C.J. Stroud is Kyle McCord, who struggled early with some near interceptions, but settled down and threw a 37-yard touchdown pass to Carnell Tate. McCord finished the day 18-34 for 184 yards and 1 TD, 0 INT.

Oregon State transfer Tristan Gebbia flashed some of his running skills but, was not accurate throwing the football. Gebbia did hit Noah Rogers on a 57-yard slant for a TD. Gebbia finished 14-24 for 127 yards and 1 TD, 0 INT.

The other candidate to be the starting QB, Devin Brown, did not play due to finger surgery earlier in the week.

Besides the QB competition other observations I have:

The defense dominated, the offense getting many 3-and-outs, the defensive line looked good, and seems to have a ton of depth, and Denzel Burke looked good at cornerback as well.

The biggest highlight came when two-time Heisman Trophy winner, Archie Griffin took a handoff and ran 25 yards for a touchdown in the 3rd quarter.

The Ohio State Buckeyes have plenty of work to do, especially with their offense, and the spring game may have been uneventful, at least compared to what fans are use to watching.

Ryan Day does have a track record of taking inexperienced quarterbacks and making them leaders of high powered offenses that compete for championships. The Buckeyes should be just fine.

Quote of the week

"People ask me what I do in the winter when there's no baseball. I'll tell you what I do. I stare out the window and wait for spring."
