On Thursday, also known as MLB Opening Day, throughout the league, news came out that Justin Verlander’s debut with the New York Mets has stalled out, for the time being.

Verlander signed with the Mets this past offseason and came to terms with a two year, $86 million contract. Verlander is expected to be with the Mets until the 2024 season, and has a vested option for the 2025 season if he pitches at least 140 innings in the 2024 season, earning an additional $35 million that year.

Verlander is a three time Cy Young award winner, and has been in the big leagues for 17 years. Out of his 17 year career, the three time Cy Young winner, has played 13 years with the Detroit Tigers, and 4 years with the Houston Astros (not counting the 2021 season where he was out due to Tommy John surgery).

Throughout his career, Verlander has a record of 244-133, has started in 482 games, 26 complete game performances (9 shutouts), 3,163 innings pitched, 3,198 strikeouts, and has an earned run average of 3.24 throughout his 17 years.

With Verlander now being a member of the Mets, this is the first time in his career that he will be performing in the National League.

Unfortunately for the Mets, and Verlander, the debut of the former three time Cy Young award winner, and arguably future Hall Of Famer, will be delayed a bit longer.

"People ask me what I do in the winter when there's no baseball. I'll tell you what I do. I stare out the window and wait for spring."
