During Wednesday’s Pat McAfee Show Aaron Rodgers, told the nation that he wants to play for the New York Jets this upcoming 2023 NFL season. Does this drastically reshape the AFC in terms of Super Bowl chances? Possibly.

Acquiring an elite quarterback will always elevate a team into championship consideration but, this case is complex because it’s Aaron Rodgers. I do believe that he is still an above average quarterback but his 2022 stats have shown that he has drastically declined from his back-to-back MVP seasons of 2020-21.

In 2022, Rodgers had a 64.6% completion percentage (22nd) and only averaged 6.8 yards per attempt (25th). Rodgers QB rating of 91.1 was tied for 15th in the NFL, while his QBR was 27th in the league at 39.3. The Packers former quarterback did suffer from his receivers dropping passes at a rate of 7.8% , that was the third highest in the NFL.

I do believe that Rodgers can rebound but at age 39 its not likely that he’ll be in the MVP race, and also when quarterbacks decline, it usually comes hard and fast.

The New York Jets quarterbacks of 2022 included Joe Flacco, Zach Wilson, and Mike White, so even an average Rodgers is a significant upgrade. The Jets defense finished fourth in the NFL in points allowed, and total yards, so acquiring Rodgers should help by keeping the offense on the field while the defense rests.

The AFC is also stacked with great teams that have great quarterbacks such as Kansas City, Buffalo, Cincinnati, and includes good teams as well, such as the Ravens, Dolphins, Chargers and Jaguars, so the Jets will have lots of competition to overcome.

The Jets are looking to land in the Super Bowl for the first time since their win in Super Bowl III but can they get there with Rodgers? Sure. Will they? The Jets flight may experience heavy turbulance.
