When the calendar flips to March many sports fans’ palates salivate knowing that this month has more ingredients to cook up a sports buffet that will keep us coming back for more.

The biggest event is obviously the NCAA Tournament with upsets and brackets, but there is the MLB gearing up, NBA and NHL games with playoff implications/seeding, PGA and NASCAR weekends, and the newly hottest sport: the NFL Offseason.

They call it March Madness for a reason, and with a nationally televised single-elimination tournament that brings out all spectrum of fans from fanatics, to ones that get interested because everyone fills out a bracket it is truly madness, and that’s not including the on-court action. The on-court stuff can be inspirational, like when a Cinderella-team like Loyola-Chicago goes all the way to the Final Four, and the buzzer beaters to win games.

Survive and advance in a one game series is what makes March sports viewing suspenseful.

The NBA and NHL are also a treat in the third calendar month of the year. Teams have been battling since October, and the seasons for both sports are winding down with every game possibly being a playoff preview, or at least has seeding implications for the postseason. Recently the Cavs/Celtics have played two intriguing, and fun games with a possible 2nd round matchup possible.

We can’t talk about March and not talk about Major League Baseball. Yes, March is spring training, but the season actually starts on March 31st this year. Watching spring training baseball is fun because all teams are 0-0 when the season starts, and watching these games is about watching your favorite players, or the new additions to your team.

For those that love the PGA and NASCAR both seasons are in full gear now with the Players Championship highlighting golf in March, and NASCAR in Arizona, Georgia, and Texas.

Finally, March has became big for the NFL as the offseason ramps up. Teams have to decide who to franchise tag, quarterbacks such as Aaron Rodgers and others are deciding where to play, and mock drafts are in full effect. The NFL these days has no off-season and March is a busy month.

They say March can either come in as a lamb or a lion but for sports watching die-hards the month of March always comes in as a lion and also leaves as one too..

Quote of the week

"People ask me what I do in the winter when there's no baseball. I'll tell you what I do. I stare out the window and wait for spring."
