Pitchers and catchers have already reported for Spring Training, which means only one thing, baseball is right around the corner!
The Cleveland Guardians have plenty of upcoming prospects to look at during Spring Training, will there be any surprises regarding who makes the 25-man roster? Time will only tell.
The Guardians have seven of their prospects listed on MLB.com’s “Top 100 Baseball Prospect List” , which is a great problem to have.
What will the Guardians do during the season? I don’t think we see any sort of repeat of the 2022 season, when 17 rookies made their debut, but, I do believe some of those prospects will be on the move…for the better.
Who are the Top Three Guardians Prospects that we believe will break out in the 2023 season?
1.) Brayan Rocchio
I believe this will more than likely happen in 2023, when Guardians fans will see Rocchio finally get his opportunity in the big leagues. Rocchio has had high expectations ever since Francisco Lindor left Cleveland, Rocchio back in 2021 received the comparison from the Akron Beacon Journal.
Rocchio has a similar build to Lindor, as well as, playing the same position and stellar performance defensively, at least this far. The road blocks in the way though for Rocchio will be interesting. Gabriel Arias and Amed Rosario, both are expected to be apart of the Guardians organization. What will the Guardians do? Will Cleveland trade away Rosario? Or will they keep him around and try outfield once again?
Rocchio has already been included on a selective list as well, according to Michael Bode of waitingfornextyear.com , Rocchio joined Lindor, Jose Ramirez, Jhonny Peralta, Grady Sizemore and Lonnie Chisenhall as the only players under 20 years old to have 15 at-bats at the Double A level since 2000.
Rocchio has played in four minor league seasons, and just turned 22 in 2023. Brayan has a batting average of .275, 77 doubles, 401 hits, 40 homers, 183 RBIs, and 71 stolen bases.
