The NBA’s trade deadline came and went with the Cleveland Cavaliers making no , moves. Cavs general manager, Koby Altman said, “We just didn’t feel anything that could move the needle for us.” I agree with Altman, that making a move just to make a move, isn’t prudent at this point especially for a young team that no one knows how they will play down the stretch, and how far they will make in the playoffs.
The Cavaliers currently sit in fourth place spot in the Eastern Conference, and with the Nets unloading Kyrie and KD, the Cavs have one less foe to worry about moving forward. Cleveland should maintain a top four seed and with that will come home-court advantage in the first round of the playoffs.
Can the Cavs still make moves? Yes, NBA teams will be looking to buyout players thus making them eligible to sign elsewhere. Cleveland can add a piece like Danny Green, Nerlens Noel, Dewayne Dedmon, Will Barton, and even Terrance Ross potentially.
The Cavs didn’t have many enticing trade chips, so forcing their hand would have been foolish considering that the team has been winning, and also building a cohesive unit that can contend for the forseeable future.
The Cavs did the right thing, in my opinion, and got better even though many are upset they didn’t make a “splash” during the deadline , however the fans will be happy when Garland and Mitchell are splashing three’s, especially come this April in the NBA’s second season.
