With the Super Bowl officially concluding the NFL season this upcoming Sunday, that means one thing, the NFL Draft, is right around the corner.
Ironically enough, the 2023 NFL Draft will take place in April, outside of Union Station in Kansas City, Missouri.
The We Like Sportz Podcast Network’s own Liam Olson, has released his 2023 NFL Mock Draft board.
1. Chicago Bears – Will Anderson Jr. DE/OLB (Alabama)
After trading LB Khalil Mack to the Los Angeles Chargers, and LB Roquan Smith to the Baltimore Ravens, the Bears are lacking in that position. After having 10 sacks and 24 solo tackles in just 12 games, Anderson is one of the best prospects in this class. I think this is the perfect fit for Chicago and Anderson. Anderson was named First Team All-SEC, SEC DPOY, and unanimous All-American in 2021 and 2022.
2. Houston Texans – Bryce Young QB (Alabama)
After disappointing play from second year QB Davis Mills I believe Houston will take 2021 Heisman Trophy winner Bryce Young. This season Bryce Young finished with 3,328 yards along with 32 touchdowns while leading Alabama to the Sugar Bowl. Some of Young’s accomplishments are: named First Team All-SEC, consensus All-American, SEC OPOY, SEC Championship MVP, and Heisman Trophy winner all in 2021. During his 2021 sophomore season he had 4,872 yards and 47 touchdowns.
3. Arizona Cardinals – Jalen Carter DT (Georgia)
After the retirement of J.J. Watt, I think Arizona looks for someone who can make an immediate impact on their defensive line. The two time national champion with the Georgia Bulldogs will be a great fit in Arizona. In 2022, Carter had 3 sacks and 2 fumbles forced in 12 games. Along with having the honors of being First Team All SEC and an Unanimous All-American in 2022.
4. Indianapolis Colts – Will Levis QB (Kentucky)
With the Indianapolis Colts having all around poor play at the quarterback position since the retirement of Andrew Luck in 2019, Levis looks like the pick. Levis ended the year with 2,406 yards to go along side with 19 touchdowns in just 11 games. Levis also finished 2021, with 2,826 yards and 24 touchdowns through the air and 473 yards and 6 touchdowns on the ground for the Wildcats. With wide receiver talent from Michael Pittman Jr., I think Levis will flourish.
5. Seattle Seahawks – Tyree Wilson EDGE (Texas Tech)
After an impressive comeback season from QB Geno Smith, I think we see Seattle going with Texas Tech’s Tyree Wilson. Wilson had 36 solo tackles and 7 sacks while only playing in 10 games for the Red Raiders. Wilson played in 3 bowl games in 4 years at Texas Tech and in 2022 was named First Team All Big-12 and an Unanimous All-American.
6. Detroit Lions – Michael Mayer TE (Notre Dame)
After trading away T.J. Hockenson to division rival Minnesota Vikings, the Lions have quite a big hole at TE. Mayer’s 2022 stats consisted of 67 receptions for 809 yards. Along with leading all tight ends in the nation with 9 touchdowns. In just three years at Notre Dame, he claimed the tight end reception record. Also Mayer was the Fighting Irish’s first tight end to be named consensus All-American since Ken MacAfee in 1976.
7. Las Vegas Raiders – C.J. Stroud QB (Ohio State)
With all the drama surrounding Derek Carr, whether or not he’s staying or leaving the Raiders, C.J. Stroud, looks like the perfect fit here. Stroud finished the season with 3,688 yards and 41 touchdowns while leading Ohio State to the College Football Playoff. In 2022, Stroud received the honors of being named First Team All Big-10, second team All-American, and finishing 3rd in Heisman voting. Also, we can’t forget when he passed for 573 yards and 6 touchdowns in the 2022 Rose Bowl. Along with 348 yards and 4 touchdowns in the 2023 Peach Bowl.
8. Atlanta Falcons – Myles Murphy DE/DT (Clemson)
Clemson Tigers defensive lineman Myles Murphy had quite a season finishing with 6.5 sacks and 22 solo tackles. He was named First Team All-ACC and is one of, if not the best defensive lineman, in this draft. With defensive lineman Grady Jarrett, already on the team we could see him being a good mentor to Murphy. With an all-around poor Falcons roster, anything can help them improve.
9. Carolina Panthers – Bijan Robinson RB (Texas)
After trading away star RB Christian McCaffrey to the San Francisco 49ers, Robinson looks like a great fit. The Longhorns RB finished the season with 1,580 yards and 18 touchdowns. Robinson was First Team All Big-12 in 2021 and 2022 while also being a unanimous All-American in 2022. The one bowl game he played in, the 2020 Alamo Bowl, he won MVP.
10. Philadelphia Eagles – Cam Smith DB (South Carolina)
With an already amazing Eagles team we have them taking Gamecocks DB Cam Smith. This season Smith had an underwhelming 1 interception and 5 passes deflected. The stats may look bad, but he’s been a lockdown corner for South Carolina. He looks like he can very easily grow over time, and I like this pick. In 2021, Smith was named Second Team All-SEC after having 31 solo tackles, 3 interceptions, and 11 pass deflections.
11. Tennessee Titans – Peter Skoronski OT (Northwestern)
Grandson of NFL great Bob Skoronski, Peter is looking like one of the most promising linemen of this draft. Skoronski was named Rimington-Pace offensive linemen of the year in 2022. Along with that, was named First Team All-Big 10 in 2021 and 2022, and he was a Unanimous All-American in 2022. Skoronski has some big shoes to fill, but we don’t see him having any problems making an impact.
12. Houston Texans – Jordan Addison WR (USC)
USC Trojans WR Jordan Addison, had quite a 2022 season racking up 875 yards and 8 touchdowns, also being named First Team All-Pac 12. His 2021 sophomore season is where he really did amazing, before transferring to USC, while at Pittsburgh. In 2021 for the Panthers, Addison had 1,593 yards and led the nation with 17 touchdowns. During this time, he was named First Team All-ACC and consensus All-American.
13. New York Jets – Paris Johnson Jr. OT/OG (Ohio State)
Johnson is a 6’6”, 315-pound monster, who is one of the best linemen in this draft. In 2021, Johnson started at right guard for the Buckeyes before moving to left tackle in 2022. In his time at Ohio State, Johnson was named First Team All-Big 10 and consensus All-American in 2022, while being named Second Team All-Big 10 in 2021. With Mekhi Becton only playing in 15 games in his first three seasons with the Jets, Paris Johnson looks like the best fit.
14. New England Patriots – Jaxon Smith-Njigba WR (Ohio State)
Smith-Njigba only played in 3 games in 2022 due to a hamstring injury, but his 2021 season is where he showed peaks of his terrific abilities. He put up 1,606 yards and 9 touchdowns while named Third Team All Big-10 and Third Team All-American. Smith-Njigba had the best Rose Bowl performance of all time, catching 15 passes for 347 yards and 3 touchdowns in Ohio State’s 48-45 win over Utah. I think this is a great fit with New England’s weak receiving core.
15. Green Bay Packers – Quentin Johnson WR (TCU)
In 2022, Johnson had 1,069 yards and 6 touchdowns for the Horned Frogs en route to a national championship appearance. His 6’4”, 215 pound frame, mirrors Tampa Bay Buccaneers WR, Mike Evans. With the loss of WR Davante Adams, it’s quite evident the Packers need to find a replacement. After taking Christian Watson, in the second round of the 2022 Draft, this pick could be questionable.
16. Washington Commanders – Brian Branch DB (Alabama)
Alabama Crimson Tide’s DB Branch finished the season with 2 interceptions and 7 passes deflected. Branch finished with an amazing 90 tackles, 58 of them being solo, which was good enough to get named First Team All-American. Branch also returned a 68-yard punt for a touchdown. A player with great skill and speed, something the Commanders could use for the upcoming season.
