CLEVELAND – Now that the legendary weekend for the Cleveland Monsters has officially came to an end, we need to have a serious discussion about bringing back a legendary name and logo to Cleveland.

It all started in 1992, when Cleveland brought professional hockey back, as part of the International Hockey League (IHL). The Cleveland Lumberjacks were then formed.

In 2001, the IHL folded, and unfortunately so did the Jacks. Between 1992 and 2001, the Lumberjacks made the playoffs nearly every season.

Cleveland hockey hasn’t been the same since the folding of the Lumberjacks, except in 2016 when the Cleveland Monsters, defeated the Hershey Bears for the Calder Cup Championship.

Every season, the Monsters have “The Jacks are Back” weekend. They pay tribute to the old team, wearing their old jerseys, using the old logo, etc.

Why not bring them back permanently? I witnessed one of the games on Friday night, and it felt so good to see so many Lumberjacks jerseys in the crowd. Brought me back to my early days of being a hockey fan in Cleveland.

What do you think of the idea of the Lumberjacks, coming back full time to Cleveland? Let us know Twitter @WeLikeSportzPC .

"People ask me what I do in the winter when there's no baseball. I'll tell you what I do. I stare out the window and wait for spring."
