Los Angeles Lakers Recent Struggles, is LeBron James in LA, a Bust?

Despite having two of the NBA’s best players LeBron James, and Anthony Davis, the Los Angeles Lakers are under .500. With a record of 23-28 , the Lakers are 13th in the Western Conference. One of the main concerns for the team at the moment, Anthony Davis staying healthy. The All-Star Power Forward/Center seems to always be battling an injury.

With LeBron James being 38 years old now, James can’t exactly carry the entire team. Looking back, in the long run, the Anthony Davis trade wasn’t a great one.

On June 17th, 2019, the Lakers, traded Brandon Ingram, Lonzo Ball, Josh Hart, and 3 first-round picks. The trade worked out at the time because the Lakers, won the NBA Championship that season. The two following seasons Los Angeles, lost in the First Round in the 2020-21 season, then missed the playoffs, the following year.

Another questionable acquisition for the Lakers, trading for Russell Westbrook. On July 29th, 2021, the Lakers traded Kyle Kuzma, Kentavious Caldwell-Pope, Montrezl Harrell, and the 22nd pick to the Wizards.

Since the trade, Kyle Kuzma, alone, has been playing better than Westbrook. Kuzma has a chance in 2023, in joined the likes of Brandon Ingram, in becoming an NBA All-Star.

The contract situation isn’t the greatest, James and Davis are both signed through the 2024-25 season with the Lakers. While Westbrook is a free agent after this year.

Personally, I don’t see the Lakers resigning Westbrook after his poor play this season.

The question arises what do you do if you’re the Lakers? Did they really go all in for one season? Let us know your thoughts on Twitter @WeLikeSportzPC .
