COLUMBUS – Tonight the Columbus Blue Jackets (14-30-2) make their way to Calgary to face off against the Calgary Flames (22-16-9). Why does this game make the headlines?

Tonight’s game is the first game between the Blue Jackets and Flames in Calgary this season, which means it is the first time Johnny Gaudreau is playing back in Calgary since leaving the Flames last season to join the Blue Jackets.

The Blue Jackets have had an up and down season, mostly being down. The Jackets are sitting dead last in the Metropolitan Division in the Eastern Conference. The Jackets just can’t seem to get the legs underneath them to take off this season.

The Calgary Flames are having an average season for the time being, the Flames are in 5th place in the Pacific Division as part of the Western Conference. If the season were to end today, the Flames would just miss the playoffs behind the powerhouse, Colorado Avalanche.

Both teams need the win tonight, the Blue Jackets need to find that win that will shoot them into a momentum boost and get their season rolling like they’d hope. The Flames are fighting for the last spot in the Western Conference, yes it is early to be thinking playoffs, but it should always be a thought in the back of their head.

"People ask me what I do in the winter when there's no baseball. I'll tell you what I do. I stare out the window and wait for spring."
