In the 2022 NFL Draft , the San Francisco 49ers select , Brock Purdy, with the 262nd pick.

Brock Purdy more than likely wasn’t anywhere close to being in the plans for the 49ers this year , especially early on when they named, Trey Lance, their quarterback to start the 2022-23 NFL season.

Trey Lance unfortunately was injured in week 2 due to an ankle injury against the Seattle Seahawks.

Jimmy Garoppolo was named starting quarterback for the Niners following the injury to Lance. When week 13 happened the Niners couldn’t catch a breather, Garoppolo, injured his foot against the Miami Dolphins. The foot injury at the time was determined to be season ending, similar to Lance’s injury.

Mr. Irrelevant, Brock Purdy , came into the game against the Miami Dolphins and surprised many to say the least. Purdy became the first Mr. Irrelevant to throw a touchdown pass in a regular season game.

Purdy in his first official career start , played against possibly the greatest player of all time, Tom Brady, and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers . Purdy defeated the Buccaneers and Brady, which made Purdy the only quarterback in his first career start to beat Brady.

Garoppolo’s foot injury eventually was determined not to be season ending and he has a chance to come back during the NFL Playoffs…. Or so Jimmy G thought.

It is hard to argue with results and as quarterback, Purdy has given the 49ers exactly that, results.

Purdy is currently 6-0 , helped lead the Niners to victory in the opening round of the playoffs against Seattle. Purdy became the first 49ers rookie quarterback to start and win a playoff game.

Is Purdy the real deal for the 49ers? Statistics as of right now state that he is.

Purdy has made 114 completions in 170 pass attempts, has thrown for 1,374 yards passing, thrown 13 touchdowns, and only 4 interceptions during the regular season. As for the playoffs, Purdy completed 18 passes in 30 attempts, threw for 332 yards, Purdy managed 4 touchdowns as well (3 passing, 1 rushing) in the matchup against the Seahawks.
