Garcia suspended a year; win over Haney correctly declared no-contest

In a highly anticipated ruling everyone in boxing was waiting for, the New York State Athletic Commission suspended Ryan Garcia for a year for testing positive for the banned substance Osterine the day before and the day of his fight against Devin Haney on April 20th.  As a result, the commission also correctly declared the fight a no-contest, and Garcia forfeits his $1.2 million million purse and is assessed a $10,000 fine. It was also revealed that he tested positive a 3rd time for the same substance, which has been on the banned substance list since 2008.

Garcia is also required to undergo random drug testing as a result of the conditions of his suspension before he can re-apply for a license in April 2025.

He and his “legal team,” in a bizarre and comical letter, claim that they were results of “contaminated substances” and didn’t knowingly do anything to gain an advantage.  Despite this comical letter and their bogus claims, all of the test results were proven to be correct and accurate.

A letter from Nutrabio, a sports supplement manufacturer, also rightfully and correctly shot down the claims of Garcia, stating  they “have never manufactured a product with Osterine,” which could potentially lead to a defamation suit down the road if Nutrabio chooses to do so.

Garcia also intentionally came into the fight 3.2 lbs over the 140-lb weight limit of junior welterweight, without giving a legitimate and honest reason why.  He was forced to pay Haney $600,000 to go through with the fight as he blatantly refused to meet Haney at the contracted weight without an honest explanation.

This has sparked heated and controversial opinions from “know it alls” (who don’t have an honest understanding of what PEDs are and what they do) to take defense of Ryan Garcia, a fighter who has shown very suspicious and childish behavior before, during, and after the fight, and has shown himself to be a very immature human being.  The reasons for them backing and supporting him are very questionable and inexcusable as they have become enablers to Garcia’s behavior while refusing to explain why.

These debates continue to be heated after the correct result was issued. At some point, everyone needs to give an honest reason as to why they have the opinion they do, accept the results as the correct ones, and move on as this saga is officially over.

Ryan Garcia knew exactly what he did this whole time.  He and his supporters thought he wouldn’t get caught.  They were wrong, and rightfully so.
